Swiss to vote on complementary medicine

Swiss people will vote in 2009 on a proposal to change the constitution to 'take complementary medicine into consideration'.
If the constitutional article is approved, parliament will have to implement several changes. Therapists working in anthroposophical medicine, homeopathy, neural therapy, phytotherapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine will be admitted to obligatory health insurance. There would be national diplomas for non-medical therapists. Complementary medicine would be integrated into teaching and research and proven remedies would be preserved.
To pass, the constitutional article doesn't just have to be approved by the majority of voters in Switzerland but also the majority in each canton. Opinion polls show that there is a good chance that the article will be passed.
