Thrillseeker - find an outdoor adventure in the UK countryside
28 Jan 10
Source: BBC
For younger people a day out in the countryside may sound a little pedestrian. The BBC's 'Thrillseeker' campaign is a programme of events combining fresh air with adrenalin.
The Thrillseeker campaign will bring together many different partners with the BBC to launch a programme of events throughout the spring and early summer.
Events range from 'easy' - such as geology, pond dipping and kite flying to 'adventurous' - from falconry to wallclimbing; 'adrenalin rush' activities like mountain boarding, survival skills, caving and fencing.
If that's still too tame, the extreme sports programme offers white water rafting and all kinds of airborne activity - with or without a parachute.
The programme will be launching to the six million viewers of Countryfile on 31 January. The Thrillseeker website goes live the same day with hundreds of events to choose from.
Many of the partners in this venture from Natural England to the Woodland Trust are more usually associated with promoting the health benefits of a peaceful ramble with friends. But with the majority of the population now living in cities, they are keen to remind people that the natural world can also be a place of challenge and excitement.
