Not so grim up north

Their findings show that eight of the ten happiest places in Britain are in the north of England and Scotland. However the researchers say that in most cases happiness isn't directly linked to location, but rather personal circumstances.
Social cohesion and equality are important factors. One researcher, Dr Ballas said 'from what I've seen so far my view is that if an area is more socially cohesive it increases your chances of having good quality of interpersonal relationships and a good social network.
'If you live in an area which is very unequal and polarised then you are less likely to have good social networks and friends'.
