Healthy living 'can add 14 years'

New research has found that regular exercise, sensible drinking, eating fruit and vegetables and not smoking can add up to 14 years to your life.

The study, conducted by the University of Cambridge, examined 20,000 people over a decade in order to establish the cumulative effect of healthy living measures.

The results show that participants who failed to meet any of the health behaviours were four times more likely to die than those who succeeded, regardless of other factors such as social class and weight.

The researchers therefore suggest that many people could significantly increase their lifespan through simple changes to their daily routine.
