Dear Colleague,
Our conference on integrated health is just a fortnight away - with major figures from the world of medicine rubbing shoulders with leaders in complementary approaches, researchers and campaigners.  We're also delighted to welcome Who star Roger Daltrey, talking about the patient perspective and Senator Mikulski talking about her strong interest in healthcare in the US.
We also invite you to explore the winners of our Integrated health awards, read the Journal of Holistic Healthcare - which features essays drawn from the FIH conference programme - and join our networks.  Nurses' network lead, Dame Donna Kinnair explains why she thinks integrated approaches are vital for the future of the NHS.
We offer GPs the opportunity to learn about medical approaches in China on our two week study tour, and announce a new diploma in the Study of Integrated Medicine for doctors and nurses.
Finally at Guy's hospital this evening scientists debate the idea that 'complementary and alternative therapies do more harm than good'.  Professor Michael Baum and writer Simon Singh speak for the motion - with Foundation Fellows Professor George Lewith and Professor David Peters opposing.

Integrated health - we announce the winners!
We are delighted to announce the winners of our 2008 Integrated health awards.
The winning projects represent all the stages of life.  They have taken integrated approaches into some of the most difficult situations - including help for street sex workers and prisoners.  There are also exceptional projects with cancer sufferers, the very old and the troubled young.
Some, but not all, can treat the ills of the body.  All are united in reaching into the hearts and minds of their users - listening with respect and treating with agreement.

Peddling bad science

Aggressive campaigning against complementary therapies by scientists who should know better does patients a grave disservice.

That will be the message from  Professor George Lewith, Professor of Health Research at Southampton University, speaking at a debate on complementary medicine at Guy's hospital medical school this evening.

Read our full press release here.  We'll be reporting back on this debate on the FIH website shortly.

Extra speakers announced for our 2009 conference.
We're pleased to announce two additional speakers at the FIH conference on 13 and 14 May at the King's Fund.
Well known as lead singer of The Who, Roger Daltry is a keen supporter of Teenage Cancer Trust and will be presenting a patient perspective on integrated care.
Senator Mikulski is a leader on healthcare in the United States and has a strong interest in integrative health and the reform of healthcare.
You can see the complete programme, which also includes Dame Carol Black, Dame Donna Kinnair and Professor Karol Sikora here.

Five questions with Dame Donna Kinnair
Dame Donna Kinnair is a Foundation fellow and clinical lead for our nurses' network.  She explains that watching her father manage his severe asthma during her childhood was the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the integrated approach.

Journal of holistic healthcare - FIH conference special
May's edition of the Journal of Holistic Healthcare includes essays from many of the speakers at the FIH conference, from Chris Drinkwater on the challenge of obesity to Dr Catherine Zollman on challenges in interpreting and applying the evidence for complementary medicine.  Dr David Peters also writes on integration, long term disease and creating a sustainable NHS.
