GP study tour to India offers opportunity to learn about Ayurveda
4 January 2008
The Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health is offering GPs the perfect opportunity to learn more about the principles and practice of Ayurvedic medicine and to experience its life-enhancing and rejuvenating benefits first-hand with an eight-night study tour to Kerala, India, this April.
Ayurveda is the oldest surviving complete medical system in the world. Derived from 'ayus' meaning life and 'ved' meaning knowledge, Ayurveda offers a rich, comprehensive outlook on how to create a healthy life. With origins in India going back 5000 years, it is a unique blend of science and philosophy that balances the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components necessary for holistic health. Today Ayurveda is used daily by millions of people in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
The tour is chaired by UK GP Dr Neesha Mohan, who has studied Ayurveda under Dr Vasant Ladd, Dr David Frawley and Deepak Chopra.
Participants will take part in an invigorating daily activity programme which will include Ayurvedic treatments, demonstrations, classes and local visits. There will also be plenty of chances to socialise and experience the vibrant local culture, with optional excursions including a Keralan martial arts display, a traditional Keralan cooking class and a plantation visit.
Full-board accommodation will be provided at the beautiful and tranquil Chamundi Hill Palace, a former royal residence, nestled among lush green hills and surrounded by 250 acres of picturesque scenery. The Palace is ‘Green Leaf’ certified - the highest rating given to Ayurvedic centres by the Keralan government, recognising the quality of both the Ayurvedic services and the accommodation.
The cost of the trip is £1,100 per person, which includes direct return flights, eight nights’ full board and accommodation in twin rooms (single room occupancy available for extra £170), presentations, classes, treatments and visits.
The group will contain a maximum of 22 participants, and many of these spaces have already been filled. Dates of the trip are 11 April to 20 April 2008.
