The House of Lords report on allergy

In 2007 a committee from the House of Lords looked in depth at allergy in the UK – its rise, and how it has been managed on the NHS.

Many experts in the field spoke to the committee.  The House of Lords committee also visited examples of allergy clinics both in the UK and Europe.

They discovered that there are very few facilities for people suffering from severe allergy, despite the rising number of patients.  They recommended that every Primary Care Trust in the UK should have a dedicated allergy clinic.

They listened to campaigners talking about the range of effects on allergy on sufferers – from poor exam results, to work difficulties, to illness and death.

They also listened to a number of experts talking about the potential causes, and ways of treating allergic reactions.

The result is a very detailed picture of allergy in the UK today, written in plain English.  Available online, it’s a great resource for understanding allergies in more depth.
